科學家研究發現可以透過磁異常來預警海嘯的發生，來自大陸的工程人員為此創建了一個模型，類比地球磁場與巨大海浪之間的關係，研究小組稱這項研究有助於建〔大陸新聞中心／綜合報導〕設一個早期海嘯預警系統，我們可以透過軌道上部署的衛星來探測由海嘯引發的磁異常，進而做出海嘯預警報告。海嘯的巨大海浪往往與地震有關，可以高出海平面數十公尺，如果發生在近岸海域，那麼數十公尺的巨浪可以摧毀陸地上的一切，帶來毀滅性的影響。海嘯在大洋（外海）發生時，其高度並不大，在海洋背景波浪的干擾下可能較難以發現。
