【綜合報導】28日，有上千人參加了金恩博士演說50週年的慶祝活動，總統歐巴馬也發表演說向這位民權鬥士致敬，但美國目前唯一的黑人參議員史考特（Tim Scott）竟不在邀請之列，成為慶祝活動的遺憾。
史考特在2013年，由美國南卡州州長指派，繼任前參議員德明特（Jim DeMint）的空缺。德明特因決定擔任美國老牌智庫「傳統基金會」（Heritage Foundation）董事長而辭去參議員職務。有評論家為主辦單位緩頰，因為史考特是遞補，而非經由選舉洗禮，因此不具代表性
